In 2014, Alaska became the third state in the nation to legalize adult-use of marijuana. Under the state's law, individuals over 21 are not subject to civil or criminal penalties when it comes to possessing, growing, purchasing, or transferring one ounce or less of marijuana. Businesses are also allowed to possess, transport, or transfer marijuana to individuals over 21 years old for up to six marijuana plants.

The Alaska Marijuana Control Office uses Metrc for cannabis seed-to-sale tracking activity. With rules in place to track, trace, store, and report every gram, end-to-end solutions and services will be essential to save time, minimize costs, and scale growth.

Alaska's Licensing Information

To operate legally in the state, commercial businesses need to secure a license. There are six types of licenses that are available in the state, and these can be transferred with approval by the Marijuana Control Board. The six types of marijuana establishment licenses include:

  • Retail Marijuana Store
  • Standard Cultivation Facility
  • Limited Cultivation Facility
  • Marijuana Product Manufacturing Facility
  • Marijuana Concentrate Manufacturing Facility
  • Testing Facility
